The State Assembly actually put time and effort into drafting a non-binding resolution (which means absolutely nothing to real people) to ask the media and other state agencies to stop referring to the swine flu as the swine flu.  The reasoning behind this resolution?  Apparently “a lot of people” thought you got swine flu from eating pork.

Just how stupid do Democratic lawmakers think we are.  After reading this I put feet to the street during my lunch hour and went around my office building asking people were swine flu came from.  Guess what?  The prevailing answer wasn’t pork products.

Rep. Phil Garthwaite (D-Fennimore) feels that we need to spend time on developing a resolution to try and rename something.  In fact, he felt so strongly about it that he drafted and presented this resolution.

What exactly are we paying him for?

If this kid can see that Jimmy Carter’s comment that anyone who disagrees with Obama is a racist is a bunch of bologna then what is the problem with all these left-wing wackos on Twitter praising ol’ Jimmy for being such an upstanding man?

I’ve come to liken political parties to unions with the candidates being the union bosses.  You were expected to vote for all candidates regardless of your opinion of them and you were expected (sometimes strongly encouraged) to volunteer for their campaigns – again, regardless of your opinion of them.

You were also expected to keep silent about your disagreements with the candidates.  Heaven forbid that you tell someone else why Republican candidate A is not a good candidate.  (I’m using a lot of Republican references here because that is what I have experience with – I’m told that the Democratic party is mostly the same way).

Today, politics needs to be about the people and not the party.  With social media on the rise it’s no longer enough to win the party primary.  You have to reach out to everyone, not just the independents, to spread your message.  People are highly motivated to work for campaigns but it needs to be on their terms, not the party’s terms.

That’s why I removed myself from the party.  I identify myself as a conservative, not a Republican.  I found that the most effective activism is the activism for which you are most passionate and that is not necessarily the same as being given marching orders from the party.

If parties were to embrace the bottom up model of activism then party politics would not fail.  But when you are involved with a party organization you have more internal resistance to your ideas then if you simply went on your own to execute them by yourself.

With the Internet becoming the best and most efficient medium for research and communication it’s more feasible now than ever before to remain a political activist as well as disassociate yourself from the party political machine.

I hope some conservative candidates or campaign managers find this post and read it.  It just may give them the edge, that flash of insight that says “We need to provide people with tools, resources and training.  Then we need to get our of their way.”  If more conservative candidates did that, then we would have a government that works like a real government and not a three ring circus.

What’s next?  Congress passing an act banning all conservative books, talk shows and websites?  I guess I’m going to have to change one of my favorite sayings now, “Let’s call a black dog a black dog.”  (Believe me, I’ve been using that one long before Obama made headlines)

People in this country have gotten so up tight about what people say that they are focused on every little word uttered, typed or thought by anyone.  The second someone says something that, taken out of context if need be, could be any where in the same solar system as racist they go for the throat and demand blood – unless that person is a Democrat.

When are people going to realize that it’s very irrelevant what other people say about you.  I’ve had people say some very mean stuff to me over the years.  Do you think that I let it affect my opinion of myself?  Nope.  I know better than that.

One of the first steps towards instituting a dictatorship is to censor anyone who disagrees with the head honcho.  By squelching dissent you prevent the opposition from building up momentum.  No, I’m not saying that Obama is trying to become the Fidel Castro of America here but it looks like Democrats are trying awfully hard to silence the conservative voice. (Anyone remember the Fairness Doctrine?)

I would love to see a day when people grew up and started acting more mature.  Guess what – there are always going to be “mean people” in this country.  There are always going to be people who hold racist views.  Silencing any form of dissent or racist is not going to make it go away.

So let’s focus on the real issues and finding real solutions.  Hi, my name is Jesse Seymour, and I am a racist because I disagree with the Obama administration on just about everything.

Now I am all for state officials taking vacations – heck, I’m even ok that Saas used taxpayer dollars to fund her little get away.  She did take the trip for official purposes after all (even though anyone who has gone to a conference or trade show knows that while it is technically “work” it’s also a lot like a mini-vacation, except that you get paid to do it).

What I disagree with is that Treasurer Saas took off amidst a huge backlog of work and questions of nepotism as she hired young family members for summer jobs within her office.  Last I checked it was not ethically acceptable to hire your family members for positions in your office if you are a public official. (There was even trouble about that here in Langlade County over the last year.)

I think the most disagreeable part of all of this is summed up best by the Racine Journal Times:

Sass said the hiring of her niece was approved by the state Government Accountability Board, which told her the state Ethics Code did not prohibit it. But the newspaper reported the state ethics director also wrote her: “Whether it is a good idea or not, or how the public would react to your hiring your niece for a job in these tough economic times is your call.” Source: Racine Journal Times

If I was advised by the Capt. Ethics that what I was wanting to do was entering the Gray Zone I would seriously re-consider it.  In fact, I would even stop completely and help my niece find a job outside my realm of influence.

But wait… there’s more.  In the LaCrosse Tribune there is an article that has the following short blurb to say:

State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass said in an e-mail sent to staff that she had re-evaluated the position and that she and Lease had different ideas about how to meet the future needs and goals of the office.

Lease’s departure comes as Sass is facing criticism over hiring her niece and the office is swamped with a backlog of 2,900 requests for unclaimed property.  Source: LaCrosse Tribune

It seems that Wisconsin Democratic leaders are rife with ethical missteps.  In these times we need to change direction and bring in someone capable of true reform.  Given the recent examples of Democratic Hypocrisy at all levels it’s safe to assume that a Democrat won’t be able to turn this ship around.

We need a strong leader like Scott Walker to take the helm, and a good solid Treasurer like candidate Jason Punzel to keep a tight hold of the purse strings.  Maybe then we can get a good balanced budget that actually makes sense and doesn’t resemble something like Swiss cheese.

Because of that the House Democrats passed a resolution rebuking Rep. Wilson because he refused to apologize twice.  He already apologized once to Obama (which Obama accepted the apology).  However the Wicked Witch of the House and the rest of the flying monkeys felt that they too deserved an apology delivered on the House floor.

Initially I was going to let this fly by and not cover it but I think that there is one important takeaway here and that is that modern Democrats are hypocrites, and horrible ones at that.  A Twitter post by @alamocitypundit which highlighted a blog post on his blog got me thinking…

What else are the Democrats being hypocritical about?

Let’s look at some Wisconsin Democrats… Rep. Kagen and Rep. Obey.

During Rep. Kagen’s campaign against John Gard during the last election cycle he declares that he will run a clean campaign focused on the issues.  Later, during the campaign, he declares an ad by John Gard (which offered nothing more than how John would have voted had he been in office) a negative attack and launches a mini-campaign against him.  (Read more here).

Rep. Obey, who is charged with participating in the spending of our tax dollars, answers a question about stimulus waste with an arrogant “So what?” response.  Clearly Rep. Obey has let his position in Congress go to his head.  Search YouTube for this… you’ll find plenty of videos.

Coming back to my point about the Democratic hypocrisy…

Rep. Joe Wilson, a Republican, is the first member of the House of Representatives, to be rebuked in its history.  After Rep. Barny Frank allowed a gay whorehouse to be run out of his apartment, after the Wicked Witch of the House accused the entire CIA of being liars and after the two bumbling schmucks who are supposed to represent us outright lie to us.

In the real world, if you don’t do your job you get fired.  If you screw off on the clock you usually get some form of discipline like a three day unpaid suspension.  If you ask me, every Democrat and Republican who voted for this resolution needs a three day unpaid vacation.

This resolution is nothing more than a way to divert attention from the real issues at hand and a way for House Democrats to keep screwing off on the taxpayer dime.  Had Rep. Wilson been a Democrat who called George Bush a liar I have no doubt that the Wicked Witch of the House would have drafted a resolution congratulating hin instead of rebuking him.
